The Service of Occupational Therapy consists of several workshops, of different products, with different materials and one sole purpose: the carrying out of the work in the most normalized manner possible. The daily working hours are from nine in the morning to half past four in the afternoon, with one and a half hours for lunch, from Monday to Friday. The educators and users of the residence cover the maintenance of the farm and orchard at weekends.
The existence of several different workshops, the variety of products of one single range in each workshop and the subdivision in tasks allows for very different proposals of work to be offered depending on the programme of each one. Different efforts allow, little by little, for better-adapted proposals to be made. It is necessary for the work to be meaningful, with a beginning and an end, so that everybody may see the sense of what they are doing.
The step towards efficiency – showing to oneself and to others the usefulness of his own existence – is not made rapidly. It may be said that the first work that the boys and girls do is to accept that work is being done around them. At a later stage it will become a question of going to work, seeing how it is done and being there all of the time during which it is being done.
Later, the different levels of participation will arrive. For a long period of time the person with autism will be somebody who works with someone else. Little by little, the moments of the taking of responsibility will become increasingly longer and defined.
The users of this service have a meeting with the educators at the beginning of the week in order to do the planning of the work and on Friday afternoons in order to evaluate the results and to be paid an economic stimulus.
As we have said, the different workshops offer a diversity of possibilities.
From the hours from 9:00 to 16:30 Workshops also carried out psychomotor activities, Physiotherapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, Music Therapy and stimulation, however in November 2014 began a yoga and relaxation space all Fridays.
